Don't you think, that overall, Snape was a realy great person-as well as a wizard?
He let everybody think that he was into the dark arts still-even Voldemort! tbh without Snape it would have been harder for Harry to defeat Voldermort. He dies, knowing that the truth may not even come out that he was on the good side, but he decided that it was for the best.
from book one, you don't realy like Snape as a person, but if you re-read it you see hidden things about him that you wouldn't have known or picked up on before.
Overall even though Snape killed Dumbledore (on his orders) and though he obviously didn't like Harry (well in most ways), he did good in the bigger picture :-)

Snape is such a fantastic person! I like his personality as well as this good-bad side thing...You are absolutely right with this! He was a perfect wizard to trick even Voldemort. And I learned to like him after re-reading the 4th to 7th book.

although he did these great things I find that the way he treated Harry (as well as his friends) could have been changed. He should have been a bit more acceptable of Harry. I know I knooooow, he reminded him of his father, but holding grudges is one of Snape's weak points and the conflict between Harry's attitude somewhat like his fathers and having his mother's eyes made things awful for Snape I'm sure. I'm not saying he should have become buddy-buddy "let's hold hands and frolic through the flowers together" with Harry, but he could have certainly showed a bit more tolerance.(Harry wasn't nice to him either but it's from a result of how Snape treated him). Overall I do have a lot, A LOT, of sympathy for snape, I dont like him entirely because of certain things, but I can see he has dealt with pain and sorrow all his life. And unrequited love is the worst, when he asked Harry to come closer, that was really sad . He really is a sort of tragic anti-hero, and one of the best characters JK Rowling has ever written from the entire series.

yes it could have, that's what I meant by not being so "buddy-buddy", but he could have turned the other cheek to harry so to say, or given him the cold shoulder, being distant in a menacing way, I think, could have worked as well to not make it so suspicious to Voldemort besides Snape is great at Occlumency so if Voldy ever tried to see into his mind (like he did many times) I dont think he could have gotten that information that Snape hasn't been treating the boy like creep

okok Snape is one of the most complex characters in the series i think, and so there are many aspects that could have been changed about him, each one presenting him in a slightly differetn way, whilst still making the whole plot throughout the books work

he could really have a book series of his own....I would definitely read that actually, JK Rowling could make a book series for each character but I would say that Snape's will be the most interesting

Snape has many flaws. I think he's the most complex character in the HP series. JK Rowling managed to create a lot of depth to Snape's character and he's beautifully written. If Snape was nicer, he'd be much less interesting (IMHO). For me, the most enthralling storyline throughout the whole series is wondering whether Snape's on the side of good or evil. That entire plot wouldn't exist if he was nicer. He's my favourite character because of his depth. By the way, did anyone see the Snape debate (Severus Snape: Friend or Foe?)? The debate was conducted after Half Blood Prince was released. I've watched it a few times and I never tire of it. A couple of the panelists made predictions that were so clever and accurate! www.bordersmedia.com/harrypotter/snapepanel/default.asp

Snape's is my favourite character for the pure fact that the very first time I read Harry Potter he was the one that was the most interesting. And I love how he only gets more interesting as the books go along. I only started reading the books about 6/7 years ago and had watched the films before. I loved Alan Rickman as an actor before the films and really liked the character he played but it wasn't untill i actaully read about him that my love for him grew. I can relate to his character a lot sometimes and that's what makes me like him more. I'm not going to sit here and say that he was the best character for being a double agent and things about him being good after all because as nice as that was and as much pleasure as i got from rubbing it in peoples faces that i was right about him [haha] you have to admit one thing. good or bad Snape is one of the most interesting, thrilling and unpredictable characters. One of only 3 in my eyes. [Snape, Dumbledore & Voldemort]. So yeah, he's my favourite and will always remain to be (:

I HATED Snape when I first started to read the books. I literally could not stand him. But after each book I liked him more and more.
