"The Woman in Black" is the new film starring Daniel Radcliffe, in theaters now. It is about a lawyer named Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe) whose wife died giving birth to his son, Joseph. Arthur is sent to the town of Crythin Gifford to settle the affairs of a deceased client named Alice Drablow. But Mrs. Drablow's house is haunted by Jennet Humpfrye(AKA the Woman in Black), Alice's sister. The Woman in Black is a ghost in a black dress with a wasted face who is out to kill children because she could not save her 6 year old son Nathaniel from drowning. Whenever she is seen, a child dies in a most violent way. Arthur tries to give Nathaniel a proper funeral to make peace with the Woman in Black, but she turns her claws toward his own son, Joseph. Now Arthur must risk everything to save himself and his son from the ghost of The Woman in Black.
This movie is rated PG-13 for thematic material and violence/disturbing images. A lot of younger Harry Potter fans may want to see it because Daniel Radcliffe is in it, but it might not be an appropriate movie for them due to the violence in the film. On netflix, the movie is recommended for children 13 and up. It is not a gory movie, but there are a lot of scenes where things pop out unexpectedly and make audiences jump out of their own seats and hide their faces in their hands. Plus, The Woman in Black is terrifying.
Overall, I enjoyed this movie. I haven't actually seen a GOOD horror film in a while, and this was definitely worth my money. I would go see it again! It was really cool to see Daniel "branch out" into more adult roles, and it was really cool to see him play a father. FUN FACT: The little boy who plays Joseph in the film is Daniel's godson in real life.
Have any of you seen The Woman in Black? If you have, what did you think of it? Did you like it? Why or why not?
